Girl and Bear
When I first met Boy one of the first things I noticed on his bed was a massive, polar-fleece blanket. Dark green on one side, lighter green on the other it was still very thick but had the look of something that had been well-loved for a long time. He informed me proudly it was his knuffeldekken (cuddle blanket), a gift from his beloved Grandmother he received as a small child. Over all his years and many many places he had visited or lived, that blanket went with him. In fact, I have seen more than one picture of a ex-girlfriend of his wrapped in the big green blanket making it obvious to me how close at hand it has remained to him over the years. For a long time I have wondered if Rio will become attached to a toy, or blanket like other kids seem to do. Often I have attempted to snuggle an elephant under her arm while she sleeps in hopes she will wake up in the morning and realise the two of them are destined to be together - no cupid arrow so far. What she does do, is love different toys or objects every day. Yesterday it was Hairy McLeary, the book. Today, this little guy. Maybe something will stick?
