Sometimes I forget where I live. I know it's beautiful in Boreen Point, you know I know that, I talk about it all the time - but, Australia is so stunning in general. And sometimes I forget that.

Sometimes I forget that places like Rainbow Beach are literally up the road. Since we've lived in the Sunshine Coast, we haven't been, so a suggestion from a friend to head up there for Australia Day weekend really got us excited.

And my gosh, it's paradise there, isn't it? After unpacking and setting up the tent we headed straight down to the water. The sky was blue but covered in glorious cloud too, which, as a photographer, made me even more excited because, lets face it, the more opportunities to convey depth of field the better. The sand was golden and soft, the water cool but not cold, so clear we would've seen our reflections had it not been for the waves that curved over us, licking our faces. The kids played tirelessly; wrapped up in the enjoyment of being somewhere other than home; the happiness of being together. The hours passed and storm clouds loomed, but held off by some miracle but offered cooling winds to help end the day and send kids off to dreamland.

We parents sat around tonight telling stories of no particular importance, also happy to be in each others company; among friends with whom you can be yourself and not worry. These are the days I remember as a child and I hope too, the days my children remember into adulthood. Spending time as a family, somewhere magnificent, surrounded by laughter and love. These are the days I remember.
