Finding the nice

Today was one of those days where you just want to run into a dark room with a blanket, wrap it around you and cocoon there for hours. Unfortunately, as a Mum, you can't.

Our precious girl seems to have hit the 'terrible two' mark a little early and well, we both went a little crazy today. I'm not going to lie. Not a lot was keeping Rio amused, she wanted everything and nothing all at once and I tried my best, really I did, but I was not able to make her happy. At the verge of breaking point, really really at the verge I put her on our bed, which I was just about to make and, by some unworldly miracle, she started to play. Running along the bed she flopped backward and laughed wholeheartedly, then turned to see if I was watching. I was. I grabbed my camera and I took a few photos, feeling my mood lifting and my frustration dissipating. She hid under the covers, so sure I couldn't find her until she popped out with a BOO, laughing again like the best thing in a world just happened. I look at these photos now, after it took her Papa three hours longer than normal to get her into bed, and what I remember isn't how stressed out I was, she was; I'll remember that smile and she'll remember mine. I supposed the moral of this story is: take another look at the same day, go back and rerun it in your mind - or take photos to look back on later, perhaps you'll find something you didn't see before, something that will change your miserable day, into a nice day.
