Dag Meeme
Mum visited us for just over a week and while I'll admit there were times when she did my head in (we are very used to our own space having limited family members close by, after all), it makes me sad that her holiday has come to an end.
Having Rio surrounded by so many people that love her dearly makes me a very happy Mama, which I suppose in turn makes my Mama happy too.
My Mum, when she became a grandmother for the first time (to Lucas, the Little Bean), said that being a grandparent was perhaps more special than being a parent. Because, her grandchild is her own child's greatest achievement; her grandchild is the product of the parenting she devoted to her own child; her grandchild was made with the same love that she made her own children with and as the family grows, so does that love.
Her grandchild is everything loving, unique, creative, intelligent, amazing and special about her child encased in another human being. The proudest any parent can be, is whilst watching her daughter cradling her own daughter.
"Dag" Rio called out as Aunty Brenda's car reversed down the driveway. Dag, a greeting or goodbye in Nederlands (Dutch), was one of the first words Rio said in any language. She waved happily as the car gradually became smaller and watched as her waving was answered with a wave in return from the occupants of the car. Then, around the corner the car disappeared and Meeme and Aunty B were gone. Dag Meeme, we miss you already.
